18ct Yellow Gold Wedding Rings

  • 18ct yellow gold is made from pure 24ct yellow gold. Unfortunatley as pure gold is too soft to make wedding rings from so it is mixed with other alloys to create 18ct yellow gold.
  • 18ct yellow gold is broken down into 75.1% pure gold, 15.97% silver and 8.93% other alloys.
  • 18ct yellow gold is a deeper rich yellow colour as it contains more pure gold unlike 9ct yellow gold.
  • You can wear an 18ct yellow gold wedding ring against a 9ct yellow gold wedding ring but you will notice a colour difference due to 18ct yellow gold containing a higher pure gold content.
  • More traditional wedding ring profiles are Court Shape - rounded inside & outside and D Shape - flat inside & rounded outside. Other wedding ring profiles that are becoming more popular are Flat Shape - flat inside and flat outside, Flat Court Shape - rounded inside and flat outside, Blended Court Shape - rounded inside and rounded/flat outside (this profile is between court shape and flat court)

 18ct White Gold Wedding Rings

  • 18ct white gold is made from pure 24ct yellow gold and to create the "white" gold colour it is mixed with different alloys.
  • 18ct white gold is broken down into 75.2% pure gold, 11.8% silver and 13% palladium
  • 18ct white gold is slightly more harder wearing in comparision to 9ct white gold due to it having less silver content which softens the mix. White gold although mixed with other white alloys it will still have a yellowish tint so most wedding rings so most wedding rings and other white gold jewellery is rhodium plated, this gives your white gold wedding rings and other white gold jewellery.
  • Rhodium is one of the platinum group of metals but works out approximatley 3 times more expensive, and due to this it is only used as a coating for white gold. Virtually all white gold is rhodium plated to enhance the brighter white colour. Although rhodium gives a hard crisp coating it will wear off over time on wedding rings due to general wear and tear, returning your white gold wedding ring to its natural colour it is easily rectified with a re-coating of rhodium, the time scale of the rhodium plating wearing off its down to each individual person, this does not normally effect other items of jewellery including bracelets and earrings.

18ct Rose (Red) Gold Wedding Rings

  • 18ct Rose (red) gold is another gold which is made from 24ct yellow gold, to create the pinkish-red colour it is mixed with various different alloys.
  • 18ct rose gold is broken down into 75.1% pure gold, 4.5% silver and 20.5% copper.
  • Rose/red gold wedding rings vary in colour from a paler pinkish colour to a deeper red colour, this is all dependant on the amount of copper that is added to the mix so the more copper the deeper red you will see.
  • Rose and Red gold wedding rings are the exact same metal, it is only the name that is different and this is all down to your personal choice as to which you prefer to call it. However Rose gold has a slightly more romantic link to the name.
